Rode the Monkey again the weekend before last (2nd May). Rumours of some braking bumps etc in the corners proved to be largely unfounded, the trail was as fun as I'd found it the first time! Rear brake (hayes HFX with BFL levers) pot was stuck on one side, so I was basically braking with the one pad that still moved, and the caliper on the other side! Ouch! Really need to work on that brake this weekend!

This weekend's ride was follow the dog at Cannock Chase. A couple of sections in the middle of the loop were out of action due to forestry commission work, section 7 (I think) was completely out of commission - it looked like they had driven a JCB through the trail. I'm wondering if the trail will be reinstated or if a completely new section will have to be constructed.

I got there about quarter to 9 and it was damn cold! In my t-shirt and shorts I thought I was going to turn blue up until I was well into the first section of single track.

I hit the descent twice on my first lap and did two laps total. My legs were burning like crazy on the ups on lap 2.

My rear shock was performing well after its recent MOJO service. I don't think I bottomed it the entire ride which is good as the trail isn't exactly full of jumps a drops, so when I hit something more extreme the shock's going to hold up well. Having an un-stuck down shock really helped feel of the head angle.

Went to Sherwood Pines today, had no idea there was an XC national on! Sections of virtually every trail were shut but still managed to get to the bike park without having to ride on the race course too much.

The trails were ok. The massive start ramp gives you some decent speed, but unless you like a lot of pedalling, this is soon lost. The wallrides were a bit underwhelming, you really had to go out of your way to force the bike up them. The jumps all need proper lips, and some of the wooden drops really sap your speed, making it a sprint to the take off point if you want air.

If I was taking my AM/FR ride out there as part of a longer trail centre ride, I'd definitely stop off for an hour or so, but to go there specifically for the bike park? Probably not the best idea.

The jumps in the dirt jump area were looking very nice though! Very well maintained. Definitely taking the 4x bike down there this summer!
