Hi. You need to know what your budget is really. There's a lot of choice out there. Look for last year's bikes if you want to save a bit of cash or get something better than you can afford from the latest 2010 bikes. Check bike radar for reviews before you buy. I'd say look for a good all rounder. Hard tail will be cheaper than full suss. They do specific trail bikes now. You can get a Giant hardtail for around £600-£700 which they say is designed for uk trail centres rather than just cross country.

The 7 stanes trails in south scotland are great- really worth checkin out. My Felt is a good all rounder (in my opinion) it's light enough to climb and strong enough to take some punishment (shame I'm not!). Depends how much you have to spend on a bike. Got the Felt in the sale at the beggining of last year as its an 08 model. Think it was just under a grand.

Well I live at the opposite end of the country but if I'm ever down that way I'll check it out. Have fun!
