Fancy a new challenge? Then why not "Try a Trail" and have a go at this 11 mile (17km) mountain bike ride starting from Diggle in Saddleworth near Oldham. For a map and route guide, download the pdf below.
The route incorporates sections of the Pennine Bridleway National Trail and the Delph Donkey Trail.
Before sampling the cafes and pubs of Uppermill, work up a thirst on Harrop Edge and Standedge. The route is accessible from Greenfield station. I personally start from Piethorne Reservoir in Newhey (See Pennine Bridleway guide for more details) Follow the directions in the bridleway guide to initiate the trail from Castleshaw reservoir as oppose to Diggle in the guide. This increases the ride by approximately 8 - 9 miles.
The ride is considered to be suitable for most mountain bikers, with a couple of easier options if required. Please see the guide for more detailed trail information.
This map uses public bridleways and bridleways which are also popular with horse riders and walkers and you must ride responsibly. When using the Trail by bike, please remember to give way to people on foot and horseback and when passing reduce your speed and warn people of your approach.
