The Caddrouns mountain bike trail is ideal for first timers, families and novices, because it is short and sweet with excellent views.
From the car park, the road climbs up through open fields. This can be quite hard going, especially if it’s windy, so pacing yourself is recommended. Over a cattle grid and the road flattens – a good spot to catch a breather and take in the stunning views across the Liddel Valley and beyond.
Bearing left, the next section is a steady pedal along a forest road, which gradually climbs to the furthest point of the route. Here, the trail drops away down the Caddrouns, the route's only section of singletrack. This section, weaving down through the trees, is fun to ride, but being quite steep and loose in places with some tight turns, care is required.
At the foot of the Caddrouns, turn left and rejoin the forest road. This final section is a gentle downhill ride, running along side the Priesthill Burn back towards the car park. On the way you’ll pass the ponds, which make an ideal spot for some wildlife watching, a picnic or even a quick snooze!
During late 2007, 1.5km of singletrack will be added to the route. It'll be designed to swoop through the trees, crossing the more boggy areas on low level boardwalk, a promises to be a lot of fun to ride.
