Giant Mountain Mayhem 2008 Makes A Big Splash!
Giant Mountain Mayhem 2008 Makes A Big Splash!
Date Published: 27/06/2008
It was another wet and wonderful weekend of mountain bike bedlam at the Giant Mountain Mayhem 2008 event held at Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire.This year's course possibly ended up being one of the most difficult courses ever featured at a Mountain Mayhem event due largely to the sodden and windy weather conditions.
But the rain and the mud certainly didn’t put anyone off competing in this year’s event with a huge 2500 competitors turning out over the weekend. While in essence the pure fact of taking part in this crazy weekend and rising to the almighty challenge of Mountain Mayhem can only render you a winner in anyone’s eyes, the actual eight category race winners were;
Solo Men: Anthony White
Solo Women: Sally Bigham
Elite Teams: Scott UK
Open Men: Torq/Kona A
Open Women: Saddle Skedaddle Skirts
Mixed: Cycling Weekly
Sport Men: Woo Har Rammit
Sport Women: Keswick Bikes.co.uk
Teams of Ten: Duke William
Scott UK managed a quad busting 31 laps reaching average lap speeds of 13mph, with the Torq/Kona closely hanging on to their mudguards with a very respectable 29 laps. Anthony White in the solo men’s category turned in twenty laps with his average lap time peaking at 11.25mph, Sally Bigham in the solo women’s completed 18 laps in an outstanding time of 24:28.29.
The Giant Dirt Demo team had a busy weekend as people took advantage of the opportunity to test ride some of the latest Maestro Suspension Technology machines from the current Giant range. Even some of the competitors managed to spend time test riding bikes over the three days, we think they were just showing off how super-fit they all were!
